Abstract:
Recently, researchers have addressed several topics in Music Emotional Retrieval (MER) due to its usefulness and intuitiveness for music retrieval and exploration. In this article, we present a technique for connecting visualization, an emotional contents analysis, and an effective interface for searching and finding music in many collections. First, we describe the MER system using a simple linear regression. Then we present a mathematical system for icon generation using a harmonograph. The emotion and color of the visual shapes are analyzed using the related literature and user studies. We then introduce a novel visualization system for exploring music files, using icon shapes connected to the emotions of the corresponding music files. A user survey indicates that our exploring system can easily replace the typical windows exploring system, and is more efficient for finding and selecting music according to user emotion.
