The "MeTown" pre-startup team from CGnA lab has risen to the challenge! They were among the Top 10 finalists in the K-Startup 2022 competition. On November 24th, MeTown, a 3D virtual fitting room cloud startup under the Yonsei University Department of Computer Science and Graphics Lab, led by Professor In-Kwon Lee, won the encouragement award and 20 million won in prize money, ranking 8th at the "Challenge! K-Startup 2022" competition.
"Challenge! K-Startup" is the largest domestic startup contest, jointly operated by 11 government agencies, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Intellectual Property Office. A total of 5,420 participating teams competed in the preliminaries of each agency from January to August, followed by the integrated finals in September to November, leading up to the final competition. As a result, ten teams each in the preliminary and start-up leagues were honored, with the MeTown team winning the encouragement award in the preliminary league. The award-winning teams from the final competition can receive various follow-up support, including certificates, prize money, and exemption from document evaluations for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' startup support program.
Yonsei University graduate students Do-Hae Lee and Sang-Bin Jeon are leading the startup preparations within the CGnA Lab. The MeTown team, composed of talents in the computer graphics field, is preparing a fashion tech service called "3D virtual fitting room cloud." This service is based on artificial intelligence and cloud technology, allowing consumers to virtually try on clothes using their avatar, reflecting their body shape before making a purchase online, anytime and anywhere. MeTown is also planning a service that utilizes a daily coordination recommendation AI with clothes purchased from online virtual fitting rooms.
MeTown has won several entrepreneurship contests on Yonsei University campus, including the 2021 ICT Startup Challenge, where they received the Minister of Science and ICT award. Currently, MeTown is selected as a subsidiary candidate of the Yonsei University Technology Holdings and is pursuing corporate establishment and investment attraction. Representative Do-Hae Lee said, "The virtual fitting technology that has not shown a practical effect due to technological limitations for the past decade has come of age," and "We will accelerate the development to make it a seamless service and create a new market with online virtual fitting rooms."
CGnA 연구실의 “미타운 (MeTown)” 예비창업팀이 도전! K-스타트업 2022 왕중왕전에서 Top 10 에 올랐다.
지난 11월24일, 3D 가상 피팅룸 클라우드 예비 스타트업인 연세대학교 인공지능융합대학 컴퓨터과학과 컴퓨터그래픽스 연구실 (지도교수: 이인권) 소속 미타운 (MeTown)이 ‘도전! K-스타트업 2022’ 왕중왕전에 진출하여 8위에 해당하는 장려상과 상금 2,000만원을 수상하였다.
‘도전! K-스타트업’은 중소기업벤처부, 과학기술정보통신부, 교육부, 문화체육관광부, 특허청 등 11개의 정부 부처들이 협업하여 운영하는 국내 최대 규모의 창업경진대회이다. 총 5,420개 참가팀들은 1~8월에 각 부처 예선을 치르고, 9~11월 통합 본선과 결선을 거쳐 왕중왕전을 치렀다. 그 결과 예비창업 리그와 기창업 리그 각 10팀씩 수상의 영예를 안았는데, 미타운 팀은 예비창업리그에서 10팀 안에 들어 장려상을 수상하게 되었다. 왕중왕전에서 수상한 팀들은 상장 및 상금과 더불어 중소벤처기업부의 예비·초기·도약패키지와 같은 창업지원사업의 서류평가 면제 등 다양한 후속 연계지원을 받을 수 있다.
연세대학교 이도해, 전상빈 두 대학원생들은 인공지능융합대학 컴퓨터과학과 산하의 컴퓨터그래픽스 연구실에서 주도적으로 창업을 준비 중이다. 컴퓨터그래픽스 분야의 인재들로 의기투합된 미타운 팀은 ‘3D 가상 피팅룸 클라우드’라는 인공지능 및 클라우드 기술 기반 패션테크로 소비자가 즐겨 사용하는 온라인 패션몰에서 쇼핑할 때 자신의 체형을 반영한 아바타로 상품을 언제 어디서나 미리 3D로 입어본 후 만족스럽게 구매할 수 있게 해주는 서비스를 준비 중이다. 미타운은 이 외에도 온라인 가상 피팅으로 구매한 의류를 나만의 디지털 옷장에서 데일리 코디 추천 AI에 활용하는 서비스 등을 기획 중이다.
미타운 팀은 연세대학교 교내 여러 창업 대회 수상 이력들과 함께 2021 ICT 창업챌린지에서 과기부 장관상을 수상한 이력이 있다. 현재 미타운 팀은 연세대학교 기술지주회사의 자회사 후보로 선정되어 법인 설립 및 투자 유치를 추진 중이다. 미타운 이도해 대표는 ”지난 10여 년간 기술 한계로 실용화 단계에서 좋은 효과를 보지 못했던 가상 피팅 기술이 지금 때가 되었다”라며 “원활한 (seamless) 서비스가 되도록 개발에 박차를 가하고 온라인 가상 피팅룸이라는 문화를 정착시키겠다”라고 포부를 밝혔다.
